“Want Me Back” Remix: The Editor and Katharina Boger on Their Collaboration

Date:

How two talents came together to remix ‘Want Me Back’

The Editor just dropped a fire remix of Katharina Boger’s “Want Me Back”! This isn’t your average remix, though. He’s taken the song’s raw emotion and turned it into a melodic, dreamy soundscape. It’s the perfect soundtrack for a late-night drive or a chill sesh with friends.

What inspired both of you to collaborate on “Want Me Back”?

Katharina Boger:  I found it truly inspiring to collaborate with someone creatively skilled in a different music genre. This has helped me grow, develop new sounds and create music that moves people, whether to dance or to feel deeply. It’s also about crossing boundaries, supporting each other mutually, expanding reach and ensuring the music gets heard by a broader audience.

Furthermore, I must say that collaborating with someone from Bulgaria was particularly interesting to me because it incorporates something Russian, reflecting the roots of Russia. Since I was born in Kazakhstan, it was fascinating to work with someone connected to that cultural direction as well. So far, we’ve been working in English.

The Editor: I love collaborating with talented vocalists and songwriters, blending electronic music with melodic techno, which gives me amazing inspiration.

How did you both approach the creation of this track—did you have a shared vision from the start?

Katharina Boger :
I believe every creative person has their own vision. My idea was to create something danceable, something perfect for festivals where people can let loose and DJs would enjoy playing it. He brought that vision to life beautifully with the beat. The moment I heard it, I fell in love with it and immediately knew I was working with a true expert! Not only someone incredibly talented but also a funny and positive person.

The Editor: When I heard the original version of the track, the concept struck me like a lightning bolt. I love the raw MOOG basses, and the idea of mixing them with lyrical voices is absolutely brilliant. For me this track is connection between to worlds, Pop music and melodic techno music.

How would each of you describe your individual contributions to this song?

Katharina Boger: I would describe it like this: Life doesn’t work well with just one shoe 😉 it’s incomplete without the other. Together, we created the complete product and I hope you all enjoy it.

The Editor: Katharina said it very well. I think it’s really important to think as teamwork. Because the greatest things comes from a team work.

What was the most challenging aspect of working on “Want Me Back” together?

Katharina Boger: I honestly can’t find any difficulties in our collaboration. The beauty of music is that it’s not about language ( lucky us)  it’s about emotion. He perfectly delivered the instrumental to match the lyrics and I’m absolutely happy with the remix. If I had to point out a challenge, it would only be that he doesn’t respond to my messages every single minute 😉 haha

The EditorActually is very easy to work with Katharina, because we have one emotion and one direction.

Both of you have worked with many artists. How does this collaboration stand out to you compared to others?

Katharina Boger: Every collaboration has its own beauty. For us, it was discovering that we share similar roots, enjoying funny conversations and immediately harmonizing in music. We also share the same vision and are both hardworking and motivated. And if you look at us in pictures, I mean, we stand out like two little stars.

The EditorEmotion and communication is so different, we are really close, our roots are very similar, because of that our collaboration is so easy.

Katharina, how did your background influence the lyrical themes of “Want Me Back”? The Editor, how did your sound shape the remix of the song?

Katharina: This collaboration has not only shaped me, but the sound has also inspired me to move. The remix gave me the feeling that I need to get up and dance and I hope all of you feel the same way. If not already, then at least when I start dancing, you’ll definitely have to join in!

The Editor: I love to use hardware synthesizers, drum machines. For that song  I used a lot of hardware, final mix is 100% analog using by SSL Mixing Console. For mastering i use analog compressor based on SSL Bus Compressor.

Your work has reached global audiences, Katharina, through various platforms. The Editor, your tracks have appeared on well-known compilations. How does it feel to know your music is being heard worldwide?

Katharina
For me, it always feels great when each individual hears it. I don’t think about whether it’s heard worldwide or just in Germany, the USA, or Bulgaria. In the end, every person matters. Music isn’t about language; it’s about the feeling. As long as it reaches each person and especially you out there, I’m even more excited when people share it, dance to it and post videos showing how much joy they feel from the song and how it resonates with them. As the creator of the song, what could be more exciting than that? When the words touch you, the music moves you and the instrumental makes you want to dance! It doesn’t matter if it’s worldwide or not. We’re all humans on Earth, and it doesn’t matter who it reaches. And the more people it touches, the happier I am, because I make music for everyone out there.

The Editor: When you have a lot of work in the studio and you’re working on making this product organic, because nowadays with AI things are easier. It’s great to see how the audience appreciates that.

What’s your take on the current state of Electronic Dance Music, and how do you both see your sound fitting into the scene?

Katharina: I think this question is best directed to the people out there. Right now, we are very happy that over 10,000 people have already listened to it on Spotify within one day and it’s currently rising. The feedback has been very positive from people, so I believe we’ve done everything right in how we are being received. The best thing is for everyone to take the song, listen to it and share it. Then, we’ll know we’re being well-received. We would be very happy if the song gets heard and if people enjoy it.

What’s next for each of you? Any upcoming projects or collaborations we should look out for?

Katharina: For me, it’s about continuing to write new songs and producing them, while collaborating with talented, successful DJs on duets, just like I’ve already done with DJs from Poland… I’ve also been in the charts in Belgium and hope there are more interesting and talented people out there who I can work with to create something beautiful. I also hope to have the chance to collaborate with the editor on one more song and maybe even go on tour with him at festivals. These are my goals in music and of course, I would be very happy if you enjoy my lyrics and melodies. I hope you continue to check out my work and stay tuned!

The Editor: I’m working on some new projects. I’m also the owner of the label Ultra Collective, in collaboration with the distribution company KVZ Music Ltd. We are focused on releasing and promoting electronic music made by humans. We were part of the ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event), and we are also working on collaborations with the AFEM (Association For Electronic Music) as a member

Any advice for aspiring artists and producers who are trying to break into the music industry?

KatharinaMy advice is, if you love something, you do it all day long. If you do it all day long, you won’t stop. If you don’t stop, you’ll see success. And if you achieve success, it will make you addicted and you’ll never want to stop. So, anyone who loves their craft will keep going with it. Never stop, keep working, keep developing, collaborate with talented people, never stand still, always create progress, keep moving forward. People won’t come to you, so go to the people. Keep pushing forward and I believe that anyone who truly wants something great can achieve it. And stay “DAngel”

The Editor: Keep your music organic and made by humans. Trends may change, but your style and identity can last forever.

The collaboration between The Editor and Katharina on “Want Me Back” showcases their combined artistry and ability to tell compelling stories through music. Together, they continue to push boundaries in electronic music, promising fans more innovative and heartfelt creations to come.
